Another must-see is the Monastery of Santa María de Sijena, which hosted kings and queens, even Queen Doña Sancha and Pedro II were buried there. It served as a deposit of a part of the royal treasury and as a monastic archive between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Thanks to the important donations it received, it became one of the richest and most beautiful monasteries in Europe.
Today with even more tourist importance since most of the treasures of the Monastery have been returned.
And finally we will go to visit the birthplace of Miguel Servetus. Michael Servetus is in many ways one of the most remarkable men of the sixteenth century. He discovered the lower circulation of blood.
This Interpretation Center, in addition to having exhibition and videographic materials dedicated to the life and work of the Aragonese sage, is the headquarters of the Institute of Sijenenses Studies “Miguel
Servetus.”
